Custom Automotive Fabricator

Detroit Speed Inc., a subsidiary of Holley Performance Products, is seeking a skilled fabricator for our hotrod/custom shop. Candidate should be a well-rounded fabricator as well as have good general knowledge of all automotive systems. It is preferred that this person is an automotive enthusiast at heart with the skills, knowledge, and passion to build cars at the highest level.


Key Job Elements (Essential Functions Performed):


Replacement of original sheet metal components (e.g. floor pan, quarter panels, rocker panels)

Installation of 4 link rear suspension components as well as mini tubs

Fabrication to accommodate late-model engine and transmission packages

Scratch building or modifying stainless steel exhaust systems

Bending and installing roll bars, cages, and harness bars

Building custom seat mounts, center consoles, and dash components

Gapping and modification of exterior panels to maintain consistent fit

Building and mounting of stainless-steel brake and fuel lines

Metal shaping and forming of custom interior or exterior panels

Research and request parts in a timely manner to maintain workflow

Installation and fabrication of front suspension components

Final assembly of entire vehicle once bodywork and paint is complete


Qualifications:

Minimum 3 years of experience in custom fabrication shop (automotive, motorcycle, etc.)

Must be proficient at MIG and TIG welding material from sheet metal up to 3/16’’

Must have own tools (shop has all major fabrication equipment: shears, brake, saw, lathe etc.)

Must be able to work efficiently and maintain project direction based off of customer requests and renderings

Basic knowledge of late model engine platforms such as GM LS and Ford Coyote

Basic sheet metal shaping and forming skills

Must provide portfolio of past fabrication work, welding or metal shaping


Preferred skills:

Experience operating manual lathes and mills

Experience operating metal forming tools such as pullmax or planishing hammer

General automotive electronics and component knowledge

Knowledge to be able to utilize 3d printed or composite parts on builds when applicable

Interest in the automotive aftermarket and current trends as a whole

Experience working with wood to build hammer forms, bucks, or fixtures

Experience with power adders such as superchargers and turbos
